Judge Bao

$60 for 5 courses, Drinks options will be available on the night.

Bookings only.

About Judge Bao:

Hello! Judge Bao is a modern Chinese pop up eatery run by “Sauce Boss” Jamie and “Bun Hun” Debbie. We create dishes with a modern spin whilst staying true to their traditional Chinese flavours. Our ethos is to create Chinese foods that are authentic, hearty and wholesome. We want to break the taboo of Chinese food being cheap, unhealthy and unethical through our dishes and our choices as a business. Our artisan baos are hand rolled from scratch, and we only use free range meats and eggs, GMO-free soy beans, seasonal local produce as well as compostable packaging.

We began our journey at the beginning of 2015, starting out as a humble food stall at the summer markets. Our brand and experiences have since grown: we participated at The Food Show 2015 and Heart Of The City Street Eats 2015, moved into Coco’s Cantina and ran their restaurant with our pop up Chinese menu for two weeks, as well as operating a pop up restaurant at 12 O’Connell Street with Tiger Burger. We are honoured to be listed as one of Metro's Top 100 Cheap Eats of 2015, and being awarded Metro's People Choice Award for Best Pop Up 2015. We also had the pleasure to open ArtDego 2015 with our two centrepiece canapés.

So far in 2016, we kicked off the Anno Domini series held at Auckland Art Gallery for being the first eatery to serve food at their roof top concert. We had the pleasure to travel out of Auckland to Tauranga and join the On The Lawn festival, followed by Laneway 2016. And for Chinese New Year, we teamed up with Noel Leeming and held a series of live cooking demonstrations at four of their stores.

The Cult Project

Three years ago we started The Ramen Shop as a pop-up restaurant.

We relied on the good will of an amazing group of business owners to allow us to pop up in their spaces and sling noodles to their customers.

On the back of this we turned The Ramen Shop into a proper bricks and mortar restaurant, this in turn led to opening Hillside Kitchen & Cellar.

Now its our turn to pay it forward and provide a space for another pop-up.

On the 11th of April  at 6.30pm we are collaborating with The Cult Project to bring you a 6 course dining experience.  The price will be $120 per person for the food and a drinks match and menu will be available on the night. We only have 26 seats available so bookings are a must.

The Cult Project is made up of chefs Carlo Buenaventura and William Cook

And they have been receiving rave reviews for their pop ups in Auckland, check them out at www.thecultproject.co.nz

What is Natural Wine?

Tuesday 9 June, 5.45pm

'Natural' has become a popular buzzword in the wine world, but what does it mean and, more importantly, what does it taste like? Six wines introduce you to the spectrum of natural wine: sulfur-free, orange wine, biodynamics, organic, natural wine and vegan wine. As a part of this tasting have we’ll have a look at the the flavours, traditions and personality quirks of New Zealand’s naturally-cultivated wines.

The price of this tasting is $25pp to cover the cost of the wine. Please RSVP by midday on the 9th of June. Also, please pay for your place when you RSVP for this class. If we don't receive your payment within 48 hours of your RSVP we will assume your no longer wish to attend and your place will be given to the next person on the waiting list.

This tasting is hosted by Elissa Jordan aka The Winey Little Bitch. Book here.
